Apparel Design

Platform: Industrial Design - Fashion
Position: Junior Designer

What did you set out to achieve with this design project? To illustrate photorealistic vector files of each glove and garment for the 2012 Columbia Catalogue, overseas manufacturing, and vendor documentation.

What decisions did you make that helped you achieve that goal? With this project, time management and communication were key. Because of the considerable workload and tight deadline I constantly had to make sure I was always work on the most important piece. Mover, checking in with my peers regularly helped me gauge my workload and plan accordingly.

What challenges did you have / what made it difficult to design this? Rendering three dimensional products in illustrator is always a challenge. I constantly had to revise and iterate on my process in order to get just the right look.

If you had the opportunity to go back and make a different design decision, what would you change? I was designing these before Illustrator had variable stroke widths. I’d love to go back and re-illustrate them keeping the lines as strokes instead of expanding them. It’s one of my favorite features in the new versions of Illustrator.
